Rules and guidelines for your exchange in Helsinki

Rules and guidelines for your exchange in Helsinki

  • Be on time. It is extremely important to be on time at the hospital/lab. Finns also appreciate punctuality in social settings.
  • Please respect the patients´right to privacy. This includes not talking about patients on buses, trams, in cafeterias or other places in any language. Remember that Finland is a small country so sharing pictures or stories from e.g surgeries can easily result in identification of patiens by outsiders.
  • Finnish medical students are often treated by doctors as colleagues.
  • Remember to be active in getting to know Finnish students. You will get a much better appreciation of Finnish culture and how studying medicine works in Finland if you don´t confine yourselves to a small group of exchange students.
  • We recommend you to visit Mocsu once a day. It´s the best place to make new acquaintances

Events

Sitsit is an academic table party organized by other students. The link for signing up for these usually comes via email about a week or two before the event. The cost is around 15€ and includes food and drinks. Remember that when you sign up for sitsit, you have to attend. If you absolutely cannot make it, try and get someone else to go in your place. Let the organizer know if you are not coming, or if someone is coming in your place. If you cancel at the last minute, you will still have to pay.
